Wide Sahsima
Yet another face of the multiple personalities of Sahsima, the transformer stone on Harling Point.
This image taken less than an hour after dawn (about 50 minutes after yesterday‘s sunrise shots) looking south at the Olympic Mountains in Washington State. One thing that gives this photo extra interest for me is the white edge around the bedrock in the foreground – I think the ground water must wick up that high in the winter either drowning the lichen or killing it with acidity or something.

Pretty close to home eh? I need to get down there to take photos sometime. Its been years – I worked on the Olympic Peninsula for parts of 3 years in the late 70′s and have a real soft spot for it.

Beautiful. I love the way you capture the many faces of the stone.
I wish I knew more of it’s stories – I am sure there are, or were, many things to know about this stone that are not available to me, or lost to everyone. But, there are new stories to be made about it too, and faces the stone shows to us could be a starting point for those narratives.
