Aerial Landscapes IV – Mountain Valley Sunrise

I am having to interrupt my macro series due to a computer failure – a massive power outage seems to have sent a surge into my main computer which no longer works. Power supply I suspect. Rats. It was a new one.

This image is for a post I had planned and rejected earlier this year. But, it is still on WP, so it’s what I have to offer. It is a crop from one of my long coastal exposures that I thought initially looked a bit like an aerial landscape. After looking at it a few times the effect no longer worked for me, so I never posted it. Now I have little choice if I want to make a post for tomorrow. This link has others of these apparent aerial views.

All images taken with 50mm/1.4 Canon lens on Canon 5DMkii. I don’t have access to the other data.

    • Hi Doug, thanks for the comment. The colours that seem to come out in these marine edge long exposures can be quite remarkable, and a bit unexpected. I’m glad you like this one.
BTW, your comment has come through again with an akismet code for your identity, which I have replaced and put your blog address in too.

  1. Ouch! We use voltage regulators on all of our gear here, thunderstorms and power outages are always dangerous. I also back up my photos optically ( I.e. CD/DVDs) as well as on a second hard drive, just in case.

    • Well, it was something special this surge because it penetrated my surge protection at home, as well as at work, and in many places around the city. My computer is home, the power supply replaced, no other harm done. The computer store, a small local one that I have used for more than a decade, has a great warranty and covered the labour costs. So it was not very expensive at all – a lot less than getting a new surge protector. I really should back up optically as well, then I could access them if the computer goes down without having to restore the whole back up to another computer.

    • Hi Karen – thanks so much. I get it back tomorrow – power supply was fried. Tons of damage all over town from the surge. We lost a relay out of the network at work, and one of the big printers was toasted too. All with surge protectors too. Not to mention half a day of work for 15 computer dependent people. Lots of similar stories.

  2. Sorry to hear of your computer problem. I had the same thing happen to me last year. Fortunately, this is repairable and not too expensive, but a pain in the backside nonetheless. i really like this photo cropped like this.

    • Thanks Ken, I am hoping there is a blown fuse or something inside the power supply. The power supply itself was pretty expensive since I needed a major upgrade last fall to run a new video card and several other bits. Big pain. I can’t access just a bit of my backup, all or nothing, which will have to change. Thanks for you comment. I just wish there was more of a hint of a land ridge in the mid-distance – then the shot would work better.
