A couple of other views taken on the Friday Harbor lab dock early one morning on our weekend visit in May.
These are both about the water that is all around the dock, unlike nearly all my other photos, for some reason. Unfortunately, the water in Friday Harbor is quite polluted these days with many boats in the marina near the town, and many houses around the edge of the harbour, as well as constant traffic. Like much of the rest of the Salish Sea this area is suffering from the presence of humans. There are many animals that were common in the 60′s and now rare or absent. Some researchers have to go to more remote marine stations to conduct studies that could have been achieved at FHL a few decades ago.

This post was scheduled in advance as I have been out of town, but I am back now, in in re-entry mode, but will be increasingly attending to my blog. Thanks for sticking around in my absence. I hope San Juan Island has not bored you to tears, or worse, to click on “unfollow” (no sign of that, in fact I have several new followers from the looks of it – welcome to burnt embers).
