Day Is For Resting
This inscrutable public art consists of this sign, and what are apparently casts in concrete of mattresses, painted barn red.
The artist is Mowry Baden, and it was erected in 1997. More info at this link.

Do you have a colour photo of that building? It looks interesting.

I don’t think so. This was b&w film and I don’t think I have bothered before. If you follow the link to the artist site it has colour.

Are the concrete mattresses in the frame? I’m confused! 🙄😊

They are lurking behind the vegetation. The one on the right is on end. If you follow the link to artist’s site you’ll be able to make sense of it.

I was so puzzled by the photo, I didn’t even see the link. I like the artwork, now I’ve figured it out. The mattresses look very soft and comfy despite being made of concrete!

I suppose that might be the point of the art. I seriously dislike the colours, and the sign is very distracting, but it has been part of the landscape for quite a while now.

The shadows across the art heighten the impact.

Thanks Ken. It is actually pretty difficult to take a flattering photo of this installation. B&W helps.

I wish I were that kind of retired. I have to work to supplement an inadequate pension. Though I do like the kind of work I do since I “retired”.
