Quadra Fence
At lunchtime last Friday I walked down Quadra Street to Beacon Hill Park. This fence caught my eye in the 500 block of Quadra near its intersection with Academy Close. It surrounds the front yard of a small heritage house that resides in the shadow of a recent apartment block. It is near the centre of this map. This location is about 1/2 block from the part of Beacon Hill Park featured in this post from the fall.
I liked the light and shadows on the fence and found that a monochrome conversion was much the most effective for this image.

Love the play of light and shadow in this photo!!!

I like how some of the shadows obliterate parts of the fence entirely. It’s a nice interplay of geometric and organic patterns.

Thanks Doug, I like that too. A few minutes later I took a picture of a tree shadow on the side of a house which I am stilly wondering how to get what I want out of it – probably with a different exposure.

Great eye for the shadows!

Hi Marcel – thank you. I really like the way the main nearest shadow seems to be flowing down out of the black background. Also the shine edges of the tops of boards on the two furthest round bits

Nice work of lights and shadows. The overall atmosphere reminds me of black and white Russian movies of the sixties. Don’t know why, really…

Hi Phaios – welcome to my blog and thanks for your comment. I will have to take your word for it when it comes to Russian movies from the 60’s – I don’t remember ever having seen on.
