Pump House – Red

Another of the black and white HDR experiments from last week, of a second pump house near the first one I showed, in North Saanich. This one is known as the Red Pump House by the owners.

I published this last night, but no notices seem to have gone out  so I am redoing it now, partly to see if a notice goes out, and partly so that my subscribers know that I have posted. I will delete the original post.  Notices did not go out by email, nor on the WP reader, nor on Twitter feed, and I did not get a pingback for the link to my earlier post either. After republishing this version the gallery did not show, so I have had to rebuild the whole thing. I expect better from WP, I had other things to do first thing in the morning.

This also was taken with the rented Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5 L tilt-shift lens and as before some of these pictures were taken to learn more about using the lens, which explains some of the strange perspective and focus in these images. I also include a really exaggerated colour HDR version of the setting sun striking the pump-house, mostly because I made it to see what it would look like and so why not share? I kind of like it for the extremes, but prefer the b&w version more.

  1. I love the color version! There, I said it. In front of the whole class, too. LOL I actually do like it, it’s rather vibrant and full of energy and life. But, in all honesty the second b&w posted here is my favorite. That little country gate is so romantic, my friend, what a fabulous scene you’ve captured here. I just love watching you work with HDR like this and getting to see the results.

    • Tsk tsk. And in front of the class!
But honestly, I thought you might like it even though it is not your style either, and it is great you like the others. That gate was actually the main subject of my setting up of the shot, the pump house was almost secondary to what I was thinking about, so I am glad you picked up on it.

  2. Heyyy Ehpem (yes, I am alive)! Have to say that I like Red Pumphouse 1the best, there’s just something about it being in B&W that really strikes me! I will admit I am jealous as I’ve always wanted to play around with a TS lens (any would do)! 🙂

    • Hi David. Glad to see you are in the land of the living! I like that one the best, both for the black and white, and the strange corner angle protruding out of the frame lower left. This particular t/s lens has the added advantage that if used as a normal 24mm lens it has not distortion at all. It is an amazing lens, and pretty difficult to come to grips with over a weekend. I will have to try again.

    • Yeah, I had to install sprinkler system around the edge of my monitor when I was first processing HDR in colour….
I hope you bailed before smoke started rising. When I was doing that processing I was concentrating on the sunlight. I did get more pleasing colour versions, but did not keep any, but the garish one by accident, since I preferred the b&w. Perversity only has it posted on this blog (which I suppose is the cue for someone to come along and say they like it).
