Pussy Willow Winter II
Once again our patio pussy willow is optimistically predicting spring. December a year ago I did a macro post on the cheery colourful buds of a pussy willow that that resides in a pot on the patio. This post concentrates on a single emerging catkin that came indoors where I could get a really close look at it through the bellows macro setup.
The highest magnification in these images is 5x, the lowest is probably 1X. The remnants of the bud cover (I have no idea what its proper name is) measures just a bit less than 6mm across at its widest point.

Masterful colour-full images. None of that visible around here – we are in a deep freeze.

Thank you! Since taking these our weather a cooled off quite a lot and the unfurling of the catkins seems to have been suspended.

How nice to be seeing pussy willows already!

Indeed it is Karen. The last two or three days have been quite frosty so I hope they are not all killed off and have to start over again – that would not be too good for the tree.

Lovely. Great compositions. And you know I love the macro. What a great subject, full of interest and texture. I especially like number 8.

Thank you Ryan! I am glad you like these. I don’t suppose hints of spring are so important in your neck of the woods, but up here they are very heartening, even if they are lies.

True – My winter is probably closer to your spring. Although, we’ve had a bit of a cold spell in LA – it got to freezing a few days back.

Yikes! There must have been consternation amongst the gardeners, and most others too.

Indeed. We’re worried about much of the produce. Luckily, it’s been dry.

You’ve hit on another terrific subject for the macro set-up. These photos are really great with nice lighting, color and detail. Nice work!

Thanks Ken! The lighting is just that from an adjacent window – no reflective devices or anything. I like how the brown cover (sheath? bract? or??) is a bit translucent with light shining through from the white fluffy part behind, especially in #1 and #3.
