Sand Drain
Another Ross Bay storm drain photo from the Canon Powershot G15 taken the same time as the pictures in a post of a few weeks ago called Drain Test in which I explore the HDR capabilities of the camera.
I like the green algae on the drain, and the heart in the sand, half erased by the waves. And the pebbles spreading across the top of the drain from the upper beach where the top of the drain is buried.

I am totally with you and oneowner on this one, ehpem, there’s something very dramatic and strong in the black-and-white and the rich contrasts. What a great photograph.

Thank you Toad. When was processing the black and white version it was extremely gratifying to slide the green bar to make that nice black on the concrete.

I like the transitory scribbling in the sand next to the stolid cement and the rising tide.

It is nice isn’t it – in an earlier post I had a view of it looking down from the drain.

I have another post title for this: Storm Drain with Sand Dune.
Seriously, though, I like the B&W version better because it simplifies the overall feeling, at least for me.

Hi Ken,
I was just having another look at the images this morning and I am inclined to agree with you. And for some reason I am particularly drawn to the very clean line between sand and concrete – it seems much sharper in black and white and is an important part of the photo.
