Sunset Moonrise
Yesterday’s post featured the moon rise. Today shows what was happening behind the camera. You can imagine the itchy feeling in my shutter finger as the camera was taking hundreds of photos pointed in the other direction. A time-lapse of these clouds would probably have been spectacular as well. These shots were taken after I finished shooting the moon rise and turned around to head home. Just a few steps along the rocks and I had to shoot the sky. I only had my 200mm lens with me, not expecting this kind of light show. But parts of the sky are just as jewel-like as the whole thing was.
I hope everyone’s monitors are up to these dark silhouettes – they look so much better like this than lightened up – and they look fine on my monitor.

Thanks Ken – I can hardly take responsibility though – this is a point and shoot situation, begging for it. Though using a 200mm lens is not the obvious tool for shooting skies and clouds, at least not obvious to me.

Beautifully captured.

Thank you Lisa. I would never have thought to use a long lens to capture the sky, had it not been the only one I had with me.

Thank so much, and what a lovely comment. The detailed ripples and shapes in the clouds are really quite special. Not to mention the light.

Spectacular. I always thought Pacific Ocean clouds beat Atlantic Ocean ones for some reason.

Hi Patrick. Thanks!
I can’t say I have seen a lot of Atlantic ocean clouds for comparison, but if Pacific ones are better, then I am pleased to be under them all the time, these days.
