Poppy Macro

More from behind the still elusive anti-deer mesh, this time some macro detail from poppy petals. These two shots are very different and don’t actually go together very well, other than as a contrast. The top is a crop from a larger image; the bottom is not cropped, a silhouette of the poppy’s inner flower parts projected onto the petals as seen from outside the flower. I like the top one best of these two.
I have more of the silhouette photos and will do a post full of bee silhouettes soon, which I had a lot of fun with one morning.

This is the week of my birthday and yesterday I gave myself a very large birthday present – I quite my job of 19 years and will be out beating the bushes for a new one over the next couple of months. Things are going to change, but I hope not around this blog. I want to ensure I have enough space and time in my new working life, whatever it looks like, to allow for this to continue unabated. It might not work out that way all the time, but I will be keeping it front and centre when considering my options.
Canon EOS 5D MkII, Canon EF 100mm/f2.8 macro lens, ISO100, f2.8, 1/400th (top) and 1/2000th (bottom).

You will leave a hole at your old place of employment but bring on the change.
Great shots. I look forward to seeing more of the silhouettes.

Thank you GT, and welcome to my blog. No one is indispensable so I expect they will deal with it just fine. The silhouettes are being worked on, but won’t be ready for tomorrow as I am having a busy day.

WOW, happy birthday and I wish you the best in your new endeavor! I am sure you will succeed in where the path may lead you. 😀
As for the images, the second just totally captivated me! I love the shadow of the tendrils.

Thank you David. I feel confident things will go well, and better than before.
If you like that second shot, you are going to love the rest of that group with bee shadows dancing through the frame. I will have to work on it…

Neat photos! Happy Birthday Week Ehpem…And congrats on you new venture!!!I know what it is like to lose a job…got layed off twice from the same company. After the second time I just quit and moved on. It’s just a job. There is always something out there to put food on the table.

Thanks David! I am glad you like the photos.
I have no doubt about finding another job, it is going to be interesting to see what variety it is.

I echo Ken’s comment – I lost my job four years ago, and was devastated. For a couple of days. Then I got over it, got a new job, and it’s the best one I’ve ever had. I didn’t realize how that other job had impacted me, until I didn’t have it any more – and I started sleeping better, laughing more, etc. So, like Ken, I wish you a similar outcome with your situation.
Oh, and happy birthday!

A couple of days! You sound very resilient. I went into work not knowing I was going to be resigning yesterday. And I did not sleep too well last night. But I am sure that things will be vastly better once I am actually free of the place, and done with the learning curve at the new one.

I may not be that resilient: the bounce back was helped how much the old job sucked….

WOW!!! Big changes are coming your way. When I lost my job years back I thought it was the end of the world but it turned out to be the best thing that happened to me in my working career. I wish you a similar fortune.
I can’t imagine the rigors of a daily blog (I have trouble with the “twice weekly”). I used to visit more dailies but stopped some for various reasons. It became difficult to keep up (as a reader) and many bloggers can’t maintain a high enough quality standard to keep me interested. And the faithful will not call you out if you miss a day, either. Good luck in the search.
Oh, BTW, very nice shots today.

Hi Ken – thanks a lot. And thanks for sticking around my blog through thick and thin. I too have trouble as a reader keeping up and have become very intermittent at visiting other blogs. So I won’t kick myself if the daily aspect has to slide away, but only if I am having fun doing something else instead.
I have no doubt about finding a job that is better. My current situation has been sliding downhill for 10 years and has now reached a precipice. I choose not to go over the edge with the job, especially as it has become clear there will be no one trying to soften the landing, for me or my colleagues.
