Iris Writing

More shots from the iris series in my garden taken in the summer. One morning the nearby grasses were casting shadows on the iris leaves, and some of them looked very much like writing. In a language I could not quite make out.

A language not to be read by your irises apparently… ; )

I think you are right. But, I think they may have been trying too, they kept on showing more and more of it, in different forms. I think they might have been running through a collection – projecting slides for consideration.

Have you tried reading it backwards?

That is an excellent suggestion since this is projected through from the far side and thus it would be backwards, I think. (He says, trying to imagine a slide projected on a screen viewed from behind, without any success). I will reverse them. Maybe future posts on this topic should include the reversed version, for the sake of scholarly convenience.

Yes, every time I see a picture of myself I wonder why my hair is parted on the wrong side.

I wish I could read Klingon like Valerie. My English is bad enough. But I do know good photos when I see them and here are some examples.

Why thank you Ken. I don’t read Klingon either. I can’t even read Clingfilm. I am however glad that you like these photos. There are more, which likely will turn up on this blog, giving scholars more opportunities to learn how to read this writing.

The writing is Klingon Linear B, the cursive form used by scribes. The third one down appears to be a congratulatory message re “park lookout”. Does that make sense?

It only makes sense if those scribes are prescient since the photo predates that event. We may have learned something about the Klingon’s which they don’t want us to know.
I am mighty tempted to trot out the old Klingon joke which makes reference to one of the outer planets in our solar system, but have to refrain.
