Horizon(tal) IX

This is a contribution to my horizontal series but taken a few days ago when there was a strip of light over the Olympic Mountains.
The main difference here is that the rail was angled away from me slightly, and the horizontal clouds.

The rail almost, but not quite, divides the picture in two. In fact at first sight I thought it was just a dark band in the landscape. Actually it serves to emphasize what is directly above it – that fantastic streak of light over the mountains. Beautiful.

Thank you Andy – I tried to line up the top of the rail exactly with the horizon, though its slight angle compared to the horizon meant it was not possible to get a perfect alignment. I like the idea of substituting a horizon, and I agree it really set of the mountains nicely – like a shelf or something for them to sit on. I will be playing with this idea more as I find good railings in the right kinds of places.

Love the rail! In fact, I didn’t realize it was a rail at first. 🙂

Hey David, that warms my heart. I like how the rail subs in for the horizon, and does a pretty good job of it sometimes.

I have actually gone back and reedited a post photo after it was posted!!!

Me too, many times. But I was feeling a bit off last night, and had to go to bed and left it. Now, maybe the time has come to fix it eh? A nice break from setting up accounting records and developing a website for my new existence back in the private sector.

Oh, I like this a lot. The rail makes a perfect horizon.

Thank you Ken! The slight angle of the rail is opposite to the slight angle of the far edge of the Strait from this view point, which bothers me a little bit. Other than than that, I think it is very complementary.

That angle doesn’t bother me at all. The one element that is inconsistent with the overall harmony is the black line at the bottom right of the frame. I don’t know what it is but it might be a better composition with out it. I hate to nitpick.

Hi Ken – that is not nitpicking at all. I forgot to take it out, but had planned to. I cloned away a seagull that was in the wrong place, and more like a speck, and then exported. Only after the post was all ready did I notice that I had left the kelp in. Sigh.
