Square Diagonals

2014-XA2-003-002-Edit

Visually Market Square is an interesting place – far more than I had realised before I was looking for excuses to shoot film when testing the Olympus XA2.

This is part of a mini-series (the first part is Square Lines) that arises from testing the camera and working through 3 rolls of film as I sorted out light leaks and also bought a second XA2 for myself (the other was for my neighbour). Thus, three rolls of film in just a few days, many of them shot in Market Square.

More shots from Market Square to come, some converted to black and white from colour negatives like most of today’s set, others in colour. All are shot on the same kind of film.

    • Hi GGNB – welcome to my blog – thanks for the comment (and follow!). I am glad you like this shot. Most of the work in this was in the post processing. The XA2 is a point and shoot, so the only skill was framing the shot. But thanks for the compliment, I take them where I find them 🙂

      • Thanks for the warm welcome. I’d been lurking for a bit through our mutual friend Melinda and enjoyed the different styles you two brought to similar subject matter. And the framing on this one is sublime. Very well seen, conceived, and executed, so please do take the compliment, I really mean it.

      • Thank you! It was a lot of fun meeting Melinda. She and I walked through this corridor, but I don’t think either one of us got an interesting shot in Market Square (she may yet prove me wrong) which is a bit remarkable considering the visual feast available. But until later this summer, I had never really opened my eyes in this place, and that was after visiting it for many decades.

      • Hi littleislander – I would have been in the same boat with not recognising this just 2 or 3 weeks ago. It is nice to have the excuse and the need/impetus to shoot a bunch of shots quickly, and with film, the desire to make some nice pictures at the same time so as not to waste the money on film and processing. It works well (for me anyway) to sharpen the eye.
