Mother of Pearl Buckle
This is an old shell buckle captured with the Canon MP-E 65mm 1-5x macro lens that I rented a few weeks ago. To find out more about the lens look at the first of these posts.
These are shot at about 1:1 and 5:1 magnification. The bottom image looks a bit like a close up of an insect’s eyes.

EDIT: Apologies to my subscribers for publishing this accidentally last night which means you all got a notification with a broken link because I was too tired to just leave it where it could be found and prepare another post for this morning. I am glad that you found your way here anyway.

Yes, it does look like a photo of an insect’s eyes! 😀 – L

Thanks! I am glad someone agrees with me on that front.

Love the second photo – it glows! And yes, traffic is slow- our graduation was today, lots of folks on the move and outside, I would guess. Also, WP seemed to have some funky moments the past two days, as they roll out the new comment follow interface. I had to restart the software several times and remove a lot of false comment follows that clogged up my email.

Hi Lynn. Yes, I noticed some weird things in WP reader yesterday, so maybe that is the explanation for a day of fewer views than I have had probably since November. Even the next day, which I published in such a way that my subscribers would have had to work really hard to get to the post had nearly triple the number of views.

Wow! Stunning to see the pearlescence so detailed and close.

Thanks Ryan. I like the simplicity of the first shot, but the second one is better of the pearl effect.

The second image looks like a torso and reminds me of the robot in Fritz Lang’s Metropolis.

Hi Katherine! I have never seen Metropolis, but just now looked at some stills. I can see a resemblance. What about a resemblance to some rock star clothing? The kind worn on the outside.

Did anyone else have an unusually slow blog day yesterday? I had between a 1/4 and a 1/3 of my usual views for some reason – as if everyone in many nations was having an internet holiday. Strange. I know it’s going to be a slow day today since I will have lost many subscribers by posting early and then changing the date for the post.

It’s hard to know the psychology of the best time to post. But I noticed a slightly slower pace too. Maybe people are simply getting out in the fresh air and enjoying the Spring temps. Since I’m a dedicated gardener, I like to think that’s the reason. Any other replies from others, Sally

Hi Sally – that sounds like a good reason. So long as it’s not because people suddenly are tired of my blog 😉

Hi Sally – well it could be Art Deco – it is something old that hangs out with other old buttons and things waiting for a new use.
