Beach Stairs V
The last of my monochrome series of the spiral staircase at Beacon Hill Park. And here I lead with the last image as it is my favourite of the whole series. I think also it is the best bench picture I have taken so far (others can be seen here and here).
I am also pleased with how the self portrait turned out.

Superb texture. The benches by the sea look so inviting…

Those benches have to be some of the most used in the park (and there are hundreds of benches in the park) – who could resist that spot and the view?

I just can’t pick my favorite from this entire set, but I have to say that the bench shot here (#1) is a stand-out, my friend!!! Absolutely terrific in every way. Great composition, great shadows and light and a gorgeous view!!

Thanks Toad! The railing shadows really add a lot to this image, more nice curves.

I really like the symmetry of that first shot and the play of the shadows across the foreground is marvelous.

Thank you Andy. All those go into my satisfaction with that shot.

These are VERY nice. I like the zig-zag shadows on the stairs in Cracked Upper Stair, the textures in all of them, and that view from the top! I really like the view from the top. I am, after all, a child of the Plains, and am happiest when I can see plenty of horizon. Great work on the whole series.

Thank Melinda. This was a fun series, but the best part was arriving at the top and seeing the light in this view and the shadows on the deck surface and patterns of the water – I knew it was going to be a good shot.

I love that feeling of knowing you’ve got a good shot!

Me too. If only it happened more often. Though I had the feeling twice that day. Others coming up.

The view at the top of the stairs is gorgeous. Another reason this structure should be preserved.

Hi Ken – it is a wonderful view. My guess is that these stairs will persist for a long time to come. It would be an awful lot of trouble to remove them.

I still like some of the pictures in Beach Stairs lll best, as sculptural compositions, aided by blocks of light and shade, very bold and striking.

Thanks Valerie – it is an interesting structure for photography from all angles, even when standing on it and looking away.
