Deadman’s Kayak

IMG_3898

This isn’t actually the kayak of a dead man, I saw the guy and he was very much alive. He has mounted a Gopro camera on his kayak which is beached at Deadman’s Bay on San Juan Island. I am not sure what he was up to – going for a walk to Limekiln Point, using the toilet, or merely wringing out his socks and sponging out the boat. The latter two I saw him doing, and there was a considerable gap when he was not around, but his gear was. Trusting guy.

In the distance the low islands are Chatham and Discovery, both just off shore of Victoria and parts of Vancouver Island around Oak Bay can be seen more to the right.  I previously posted some pictures from this same visit to the beach. This image also reminds me of this one I took in Victoria in February last year. It has a better sky, but then it was winter. Kayaks on the beach can be irresistible.

    • Thanks Andy – and Orcas off shore, which is probably what this guy wanted to photograph more than anything else. As we left this spot we saw Orca (killer whale) fins just a few hundred metres along from this beach.

  1. The bright yellow kayak is a stand out against the blue sky, a great combination. I have shot (photographed) some kayaks in the water and, you are right, they are irresistible.
