Iris Endings

IMG_1165-Edit edited

My regular visitors will be familiar with a long running series on the irises in my garden. The flowers have now come to an end and wither on their stalks.  I think these photos make a great counterpoint to the earlier post Iris Buds.

I like the colours and gentle decay, and the small little features that are still intact on the surfaces of some petals. And of course, the early morning light.

These pictures are a pretty nice complement to an early winter post of mine from a couple of years ago, showing the end of the patio fennel, Fennel Fail.  The first picture in that post is still one of my favourites.

  2. It never ceases to amaze me that so many flowers can be just as beautiful, if not more so, when they have passed their prime.
You have so beautifully shown that here.
    This is a wonderful image.

    • Thanks Lisa! I guess it is a bit like Urbex photography – there is a lot of interest and beauty in decay. Maybe I should call this series Florex, or something.

  3. The light is exceptional here, ehpem. I’ve always thought there was a certain beauty in the “end of life” cycle, especially for flowers. Here’s more proof.

    • Thank you Ken. It took me a while to understand your comment. Optimistically, I was looking for a link to one of your ‘end of life’ photos. I’m glad you like these – Every now and then I take shots like this, but usually the light is not good enough to make something of them.
