Wall Door

This photograph was also taken in the Royal Roads University gardens a few weeks ago, about ten feet to the left of yesterday’s post, absent the patch of sunlight.
I can’t make up my mind if I like the coloured version or the straight black and white. Kind of leaning to the straight black and white.

Definitely the selective colour version for me! Really makes the flowers stand out where as they got lost (to me) in the B&W version. Thanks for having both in your post!

Thanks David. It is always interesting to get feedback from the different versions. Sometimes it confirms my own feelings, often it opens my eyes to something I am not seeing too well.

Thank you Lisa. I take that as a vote for the colour version!

I prefer the colour one too. I don’t usually like the selective colour thing but I do in this one, very much.

Thanks Ashley! I know what you mean about selective colour – it needs to be done with care. I am still learning that (giving myself permission to post ones that don’t work too well in the future?)

I’m guilty of selective color myself so I am not opposed to it, It’s a way of calling attention to a subject in a photo that might be in competition with other elements in the frame. I think it’s a good choice here.

Thanks Ken, that was my thinking – the flowers are rather lost in the black and white and I did take the picture because of the flowers. Perhaps an even lighter colour, just a hint of pink, would do the same and be nicely subtle.

I don’t even need to weigh in on this one, do I? I am pretty sure you already know which one I prefer! (Although, those flowers ARE a lovely shade of pink….)

Well Melinda, when it comes down to it, I wasn’t even asking you, so certain am I in your answer:) But it is a lovely shade of pink.

I am predictable on the b&w v. color questions, aren’t I? But even if I know you know my answer, I guess I still want it to be noted, officially!

Not completely predictable. But this one seemed a sure bet.

Prefer the colour myself, there is so little of it there and so delicate, it is intriguing

Hi Val – thanks for your comment. I tried it with a less delicate colour, but it did not work as well, I thought.

I like the colour version because the pink petal colour is really subtle. If those roses were a bright red, it wouldn’t work for me.

Hi Kiki – welcome to my blog and thanks for commenting. The pink colour is really quite different from the original, which was much darker and too bright for my taste. Looks like we have the same taste for these things.
