Coho Waves

I made these photos on the Coho Ferry on the way to Port Angeles and the Olympic Peninsula in July.
The only difference here is the point of focus, and slightly different processing.

Canon 5Dii, Canon 100mm/f2.8 macro lens, ISO100, f2.8, 1/2000th, processed in Topaz B&W effects, using two different infrared presets.

The first shot is superbly crisp and I love the flow of it.

Thank you Andy. These metal panels were pretty uniformly indented all the way along the railings, so a longer view, will less clean and simple, really gives a feeling of waves rolling the length of the ship.

Thanks Lynn! It was an interesting thing to look at, and to photograph.

While I like both of these, I am drawn to the first one, with its variety of lines and its abstract nature.

Thanks Melinda. It is my preference too.
I just could not help the temptation of the second which has glimpses of the ocean waves in focus as a bit of embroidery to the more graphic waves in the foreground.

I find these very exciting, especially the first image. Great texture and contrast and I don’t even care what the subject really is. B&W is perfect for them, too.

Thank you Ken! I found this subject really exciting too. I got a lot of strange looks while I was taking these shots. They actually work well, though in a different way, in colour and I will probably post some of the others in their native blue and white.

I never notice if I get strange looks for others. However, if I’m with my wife, she will notice if I’m getting strange looks and tells me later. Like you, I don’t let it bother me.

In this case, I was having to sit on life jacket trunks that are placed under the windows, with people sitting behind them. To frame the shot I had to press my back against the glass, within inches of their faces. I deserved strange looks, but tried to move along fairly quickly so that while I bothered a whole bunch of people, I did not bring any to the boiling point!
