Young Teazle

At this stage in life teazles are still soft and not nearly as spiky as they look, or become. This one is in the garden next door and was taken in early July.

This looks suspiciously like a variety of weed we have here. I see it in the park and I really like it. Excellent shot.

This is like a giant thistle – around here they grow to 8 or 9 feet tall with seed heads that are spiky – almost brush like. In fact, long ago they were used a bit like a brush for fulling the surface of woven wool. It raises the surface of the wool a bit and softens it. The name is related to the word to tease – as in to tease things apart, to separate them.

Thanks Andy! These plants have wonderful shapes. Their leaves are quite something too. I have some macros of the leaves gathering dust in my archive that I need to bring out sometime soon.
