Spider Flamboyance

I can’t think of a good antonym for minimalism to balance yesterday’s post about the simplicity that spiders can indulge in. This was taken the same morning as yesterday’s shots and just a few feet away.
No flying insect stands a chance in this gap in the hedge, which the spiders have decorated with the sumptuousness of a Baroque church.

This is a wonderful image – well made and superb lighting.

Thank you David! I appreciate that, it is one of my favourite shots from this year. And putting a thin white border on just seemed completely necessary, something that normally I would not bother with. Holds it all together.

I like this quite a bit! And especially like how the web in the center almost looks like a flower.

Thanks Melinda! I don’t suppose they look like that to small flying insects….

No – they look like Webs of Death to small flying insects.

Thanks Emily! I took a lot of photos of this, trying for the best focus point. This one worked out better than most of the others.

That’s a fantastic weaving, and photograph. Beautiful and deadly too, I guess, if you’re tiny!

Thank you Karen! Deadly for sure. I suspect that there are quite a few spiders involved in making this barricade.
