Man Shadow Dog

Two more photographs of shadows from a high vantage point at Clover Point beside Ross Bay. When I took the other photographs (see here and here) I was waiting for this dog and his man, and accompanying shadows to arrive. I had spotted them in the distance and thought that they might make a pretty nice shot. They did not walk in the ideal line (and I was not going to shout down from the edge to see if he would retrace his steps by a slightly different route). I think the first one I posted is the best placement of the man and shadow. But the top one here works pretty well

I may be able to settle all differences. I ones had a summer job where I painted lines on a tunnel road. In Greenland. Don’t ask. But I believe my work experience speaks for itself. I may be able to furnish references regarding the quality of my work as well as my service record. And I don’t drink beer (anymore) so that is more for you guys.

Ah, just the man for the job! Perfect qualifications. Maybe we could some prints painted in the adjacent tunnels if we have the relevant expertise. And it feels colder than Greenland here right now, so that part fits. Wow, all in one package!

And I work cheap, too! Just ask my boss at the Museum!

Museums are well known for their economical ways, so I don’t need to ask. Anyone that works at a museum is used to working for free. The added inducement here is two days off without pay, museums are stingy that way.

You’re right, the first one is the best of the series but the first shot here is excellent, too. I like Mel’s idea of the painted footsteps too but you will also have to include some dog footsteps painted as well.

Oh good, two assistants. You will need a sponge in the shape of dog feet, on a stick to save your back. If you follow Melinda with her feet-on-wheel device then you can align the dog prints as if on a short leash (most suitable for this shot). I will supervise both of you. We can go for a beer after the shot is taken.

Maybe the next time you go there to shoot, you could paint footprints on the ground so pedestrians knew where you needed them to walk.

This is sounding like work. I prefer to supervise if I am at work. Which requires an assistant. I think you just volunteered to carry paint cans. I will devise a thing out of a bike wheel and carefuly spaced shoes from a thrift store so that you can paint the soles and drive the device, leaving much more efficient foot prints. While I supervise, of course.

Wait. This doesn’t seem to be working out at all. Suddenly I am your painting department, which sounds like quite a bit of work (although the bike-wheel-with-shoes deal sounds pretty interesting) and will also involve being outside when it’s cold. I don’t like to be cold.
And you get to be my research department, which only involves bicycles if you need to google something about them?
Things have taken a sinister turn….

I think this is a prototype for the shoe device – as you can see I am doing my part by researching (for myself I hasten to point out). http://www.douglas-self.com/MUSEUM/TRANSPORT/traction/pedrail%201.jpg
I think you should count yourself lucky, you snagged the illustrious position of shoe printer. A step above sponging paw prints.

You DO make a compelling argument. If I decide to take this position, would I have the usual arrangement of working for free, with two unpaid days off per week? Do I need to submit a resume? Or a YouTube showing my bicycle skills?

I need to see you driving a steam donkey to be sure you can handle this rig that is being made for this job – a video would suffice, so long as I can be sure it is not photoshopped. And it has no racing camels.
And yes, while that renumeration might seem generous, that is what I am willing to pay my assistants. Even the spongers.

I will get on that video right away, as soon as the scotch (required for the other comment thread) wears off. You are very generous with the renumeration. Oh – references…do I need to provide references?

I was thinking Ken Oneowner might provide references for you, and you for him. That seems efficient, and we are going to need efficiency if we are going to paint these tracks, get cleaned up, get out of the way and get the shot, all before the light goes.

Is Ken competing for this position? Or would it require both of us?
LikeLike
No competition necessary, unless Ken wants to drive a steam powered shoe wheel painting tractor and you don’t want the sponging position. Then you will have to compete. I probably will decide with a coin toss.
Of course, if he is not interested in either position, then you will be promoted to do both positions. You do have two arms don’t you? Naturally your pay will be doubled.

Would you use a Canadian or a US coin for the toss?
And, yes – I do have two arms! Both of them original, so they have a few years on them, but still seem to be in good working condition.

Well actually I got a shekel in my change the other day (true story) so I thought I would use that.

Oh, and one other perk – you get to buy me beer at the end of each shoot.

I assume you will share the beer with your assistant, if she buys it in sufficient quantities?

Saturday, if the sun is out. 2pm, or so.

That sounds good. See you on Saturday, then. I suppose we’ll meet at the usual spot?

Yes – the Clover Point sewage treatment plant. I did tell you that this view is down over the plant doorway, didn’t I? I know you grew up holidaying at such facilities, so you should be thrilled with this outdoor studio.
