Sunrise by Trial
This is a much lighter version of a view that I showed before as Storm Drain Sunrise IV – Andy Hooker referred to the cloud as oppressive, which was the perfect term for that photo. The different exposure and treatment of this photo has resulted in a brighter and more welcoming view out at Trial Island.
I don’t know about anyone else but I think the wave line in the foreground adds quite a bit to this picture.

Excellent photo Ehpem. I agree, the wave adds just the right amount of added interest so the image isn’t so static. Great capture/timing!!!

Thanks David. I sure wish I could take credit for the timing, and so I will – own luck for a moment!

Yep – that wave in the foreground is a great addition. I love this image too – so different from the other one. And just for your other readers: the ‘oppressive cloud’ was a good point and not a bad point about the other image. It was a very powerful shot!

Thanks Andy. It was very much a good descriptor for that cloud. The other image is far more powerful but I like the more placid feel of this shot too. Very different but to me pleasing.

Yes, the wave line provides some foreground. Without it you’d have a uniform mass of undifferentiated water.

Thanks Richard. The uniform mass of water has its good points, but in this case it is nice to have it broken up.

I agree about the wave. It echoes the shape of the cloud above it and the land jutting into the picture mid frame from the opposite side of the composition. I like it.

Thanks Erin – needless to say I did not wait to take the picture until the perfect wave caught the light just right. I wish I had that much foresight. Maybe with time…

Sorry to say it but you have taken all the drama out of that wonderful picture in this rather pallid shot

Hi Val. I am glad you like that other shot. But, these are different photos with different exposures (in fact, this is three photos blended together), so I have not taken anything out of this photo. In fact what you like about the other one is what I put into it. Also, “rather pallid” is a pretty good description of the conditions around here most of the time and of this view in particular, so I’ll take that as an indication the shot is working at one level.
