Market Square
One of the reasons I have been coveting a small digital camera is the ability to take street photographs without being obvious about it, and which can be in the pocket between shots.
Thus it is kind of fun to have a work camera that fits the bill, and which I can try out prior to making a purchase of my own. The lens on this camera is anything but discreet, but it focuses extremely quickly if I point it at the right place. These are all shot from the waist in the Sunday Market at Market Square, a mode of shooting that will take a lot more practice, if I continue. While I like some of the results, it does not feel right to photograph this way. But how do you ask these oh-so-stylish shoppers if you can shoot them, and not wreck the moment?

Great shots! I use my iPhone for street photography; the screen is big enough to see while held low and a simple touch on it focuses the image. It does take a different part of my personality to shoot on the street though.

Hi Lynn, nice to see you around here again, and your garden sure is looking splendid these days.
I would not have you pegged as a street photographer – your blog contains not one hint of it, nor of that personality you refer to! It would be interesting to see what you capture.
Interesting comment about a different part of your personality. I will have to explore that idea. Hopefully keeping things together within a single personality!

I do more street photography when I travel or when I explore local urban neighborhoods on foot. I used to do a lot when I toured overseas, had a few one-woman shows when I printed B&W. Back then, I used a small Pentax 35 mm camera with a zoom lens. I would pre-set the zoom and pre-focus it for the average distance I shot and use aperture priority mode so that I could grab shots quickly under the radar. Street markets were my favorite places to shoot. Maybe I will post some of it in the future 🙂

Hey GT! That style seems to ask for trouble, whether of the lippy variety, or in photography. But some people really can make it work.
