Bus Stop Shadows

2014-XA-002-30

I have tried this shot several times with my phone and on film with this camera.

I don’t think I have published any of them before, except on Instagram.

I had not really noticed that the softer angular shadows are from a glassed-in deck well above my head, until I realised they were not attached to the nearby bus stop.

It think you can tell that the human shadow is not up on that deck, or even that of a person that has jumped from it, but rather a passerby down at street level.

For these shots, I found just the right distance out from the building to stand and take photos – it steered passing people away from the wall and just into the sun,

so that they unknowingly made a nice shadow for me. Tricky, eh?

    • Thank you Andy. I liked how the film recorded some textures in the shadows, especially the foreground stripe, which goes well with the curb and bike lane paint. This must be one of those shots that is only possible for a week or two of the year, providing the weather is cooperative and I am at this location at the right time.
