Coffee Lines
Another shot taken while testing the Olympus XA2 – this crop is a nice complement to yesterday’s post. Below is the uncropped image.
Photo taken in Fernwood at the Parsonage Cafe, purveyors of great coffee and food.

Lines, patterns, shadows – and an edible graininess. Lovely.

Thanks Mike. I do like the grain of film, it feels right in a photograph.

It’s two for the price of one. The first is geometric – and I love geometry. The second is more ‘human’, and it contains the thread of a story. Both are good in my opinion, Ehpem

Thanks for pulling this apart a bit Andy. I am in a geometric mood these days hence the crop. But geometry without people or something living is a bit of a thin gruel after a while. Brought home to me this weekend while editing hundreds of photos from the wedding of two good friends. All about life and joy and humanness – the geometry pales in comparison.

So, I was going to post a comment about how I liked the cropped version better, and how the bike wheels were a little too much. Then I thought it might be the SPOKES that were too much. So I looked back at the shots. And that’s when I noticed how there are a variety of curves (the circles, of course, but the springs under the bike seat, the decorative part of the wrought-iron bars, the bike’s brake cables, the curves on the handles of that other bike, even the circles on the poster in the window). And, then the first photo – as much as I liked it at first – seemed a little too harsh – although I do like it that you included just a hint of the curve that’s on the top of the trash bin.

That first photo is a bit stark. It suppose it might work better in colour in a way that the uncropped version does not want to. There are a lot of curves in the rest of the photo that are not immediately obvious – dominated by the wheels.

Once I started looking for curves, I was surprised at how many I found. It was like a treasure hunt!

Weii that is a good thing!

I can’t pick a favorite today. Both are winners. Normally I would pick the top image but the circles (wheels) on the bike are a very interesting contrast.

Hi Ken – thanks! I am in the same quandry. I prepared the post with just the crop but found myself going back to the circles which inspired the photo in the first place. So I put it in too.
