Cold Fingers

2014-FM-001-025

I like the way light from adjacent buildings is reflected across the street.

In this case the wall has  subtle textures and that odd rectangle of different coloured paint.

As you can see I waited for a pedestrian to liven the shot up a bit. I think she has cold fingers, though with a fashion for longer sleeves, perhaps I am wrong.

It was around this time the light meter became unreliable.

I dropped in at a camera store who checked the battery for me and the metering which they found was only 1 stop off.

However, when I went out it was clear it was several stops wrong. So I reverted to the sunny 16 rule for the remainders of the afternoon and roll of film, including this shot.

  1. I like this photo. There’s nice light and shadow play and the woman gives it scale.
I had an FM and it was the second best camera I’ve ever had. Built like a tank. I used it daily for over 15 years without a single problem. I purchased the optional motor drive after a few years and it felt very nice in the hand. Wish I had it now but even that camera won’t get me to go back to film.

    • Hi Ken. I was never as deeply immersed in film as you – not even close. So for me it is in part learning to do what I failed at before. Film also seems to boost my creative juices right now. The FM is a very nice camera. This one saw a great many rolls of film so it is hardly surprising it has issues now. I think this is the first time it has had a problem. It is a nice size too – really quite compact.
