I was premature in wrapping up my series on the bugs that are found on the irises. Just because the iris blossoms are done, doesn’t mean there are not bugs. I was using a high magnification set up on my camera in the early morning sun. The tripod was all set and everything ready to go for shooting iris leaf macros, when this guy landed near by. I completely forgot about the vegetation shots.

More of the withered irises in my garden. For a while after the blossoms started to dry up, there was often a single spike above the crumbling petals.

My regular visitors will be familiar with a long running series on the irises in my garden. The flowers have now come to an end and wither on their stalks. I think these photos make a great counterpoint to the earlier post Iris Buds.

Getting to the tail end of the part of my iris series which focusses on the bugs that use the irises. I like the wasp’s wings in motion in this shot. A bit of a lucky shot even though I was trying to get pictures of them flying. Tracking and focussing at these magnifications is not all that straightforward.

One last visit to the that wonderful sunset I have shown a few times in the past weeks. This is one of my neighbours. He was taking pictures with his phone.

I was taking pictures of my granddaughter in a shady patch in the garden when I noticed the sky overhead. A bit distracting!

Yesterday I went for lunch and a photo outing with Toad, of Toad Hollow Photography, which was a huge pleasure that I hope to repeat again soon. This shot is from our wander through some of the gardens at Royal Roads University in Colwood, west of Victoria. These lily pads are in a small pond in front of the old Dunsmuir residence, Hatley Castle. I wondered why they were so speckled, as if some ash had fallen on them; careless smokers perhaps, or some strange amalgam of pollen. Imagine my surprise when, at home, I zoomed in and found the specks were alive. Or at least the black ones are. I think the white ones are moulted skins. Below are a couple of crops from the image above, just so you can see what I mean.
