Another revisit of a theme I had running for a while – the blocks at Ogden Point Breakwater. You can find out more about the breakwater in my first post of this series.
Some of you probably thought that just because I was out of town, that there would be no more storm drain pictures for the duration. Well, I guess you were wrong. This is one from a wet day.
The lower part of the fire access road into the Friday Harbor marine station’s forested land is lined with horse tails (Equisetum).
This birdhouse was placed on the trunk of this large Douglas fir many years ago. The size of the tree disguises just how large this bird house really is. Perhaps it was intended for an owl. Whatever the idea was, it has not worked out as there has never been a nest built here.
These pictures emphasize the quality of light found in a south coastal forest, in this case on the Friday Harbor marine station lands. (more…)
On my trip to Friday Harbor I visited San Juan County Park on the west side of San Juan Island. It is located beside Smallpox Bay – there must be a story there. The park is a campground, very popular with the cycling crowd, and often difficult to get into. We had a bright but cloudy sky in the late afternoon which was one of the things that prompted me to convert these photos to black and white.
The sedums were in blossom on the weekend we spent at Friday Harbor. We found this one along a path next to a rocky shore at the forest edge.
See my About page for details.
