The Demitasse

The Demitasse Bakery Store is in the middle of south Oak Bay at the corner of McNeill Avenue and Roslyn Road. It is very much a part of my surroundings, not just because the store is a place we shop frequently but because the owners were our neighbours, and at one time they had a café (of the same name) downtown next to my office where I went for coffee every day for a few years. The store has very good coffee, wonderful baked goodies and bread, a small but high quality choice of other foods and around the outside a small garden center that also provides shade and atmosphere for a few tables and benches.

My pictures today are of the outside of the store. By and small they are of details that caught my eye. They don’t of course convey how delicious the lemon squares are – that you will have to imagine. I hope the owners don’t mind me posting these pictures – they said I could take them, but I did not say I would post them. And, I see that the annual maintenance is a bit overdue but they do look after the place and recently redid the inside, so I bet the outside will be getting a coat of paint in the new year.

    • They are very good. So are the pecan squares 🙂 (BTW I get no freebies or other considerations for this post, the owners don’t even know about it, at least not yet).
