Clematis Seed
Once more I have visited the clematis seed heads. They are only a few doors away, on a route I often return home by if photographing in the neighbourhood. This was on Tuesday after an hour or so of wandering about, mostly in the Chinese Cemetery. The light was perfect, and some of them had shadow behind them, to give a nice black background.
This is the same plant as I posted about almost three weeks ago titled Seedy Clematis, which has been one of my most viewed posts. This is a very different take on the same subject, and I think I prefer this one.

I think they’re both nice shots, so I refrain from picking a favorite. I do like the light on this, though. It enhances the texture a bit. I’m surprised that they have sustained in such good condition at this late date. My neighbors plants don’t look anything like this.

Thanks Ken – I am surprised by their condition too – we have not had the succession of howling wind storms through here that we should have had by now, just a bit of wind, and not nearly so much rain either. But, on the other hand, until I started taking photos, I had never looked very closely at the seed pods, so I don’t have any observations of previous years to gauge by.

This is just the coolest photo!!! I like everything about it…composition, light, etc., but most of the the subject!!!

Hi David – thank you. I think the light is what makes this photo work so well. I am slowly learning these aspects of taking pictures, but it still feels a bit haphazard.

Technically, this image is probably superior to the “Seedy Clematis” shots, but the other ones brought in a hint of an alien world.
I like the surprising reds in this one.

Hi Doug – its true that this lacks that alien or Dr. Seuss feeling and maybe is not so compelling. I will have to think more about how that kind of thing makes a good photo. The reds surprised me too – I confess that I added a tiny bit of saturation to bring them out more than in the original exposure.
