Light Hips

Last Thursday we went for a walk to Anderson Hill Park and home via a circuituous route. I took along the camera but the light was already failing and I did not bother to take it out of its bag till halfway through (and even worse light).

All the other pictures are better in black and white. Somehow these rosehips are the perfect foil for the out of focus Christmas lights – nature showing competing successfully with the gaudy technology, though they do seem to be yearning a bit for the city lights – it seems almost like the branches are reaching towards the lights.

Sometime I will show a couple of the black and white shots, but I am running on a low tank today – going back to work after a couple of weeks off takes a toll. So this one too is for lovers of the succinct, if you are still out there.

Canon EOS 5DMkii with Canon 50mm/1.4 lens. Shot at f1.4 and 1/250th second, ISO 1250.

  1. I like the light, the bluish cast mixing with the red fruit and distant lights. Wonder if this past year yielded a bumper crop of rose hips. I have some shots I haven’t posted yet where wild rose hips abound. Maybe they are always there and I’ve missed them.

    • I have been noticing a lot of rose hips too, but like you am not convinced that I haven’t just missed them in previous years. This particular rose was huge and red like this all over. They were all over the place on Anderson Hill too.
