Curb with Hydrant
A hydrant, seemingly beneath the arching curb edge continues my yellow street edge series.
As I said in an earlier post, red seems to be a common street edge colour as well, and red and yellow often combine in the same place. In fact, this is just around the corner from the bus stop red line shown in Rasta Curb at the beginning of this series. I like the curb reflection on the hydrant. But now that I see this in a draft post with a black background, I see I was a bit ham-fisted with processing the yellow line – not sure at what stage that happened. This is almost certainly an image that would have worked out as well from a single exposure, but I am still experimenting and learning….

Another strong composition, shallow depth of field has really worked very well in this shot.

Thanks Andy. This one did feel right when I was composing it in the view finder.

Great shot! The shallow DoF really makes the hydrant pop and I just love layer of water and drops that we see, they really strengthen the feeling of a typical damp island day. Awesome composition, too!

Its interesting that both you and Karen comment on those few drops, in among all that vibrant red. It is true that the details matter, a lot, even though sometimes the picture is not about details at all.

Looks wet out your way!

Hi Karen – funny, I was just this same minute commenting on your wonderful images.
It is wet out our way. After two nearly rainless months, we are in no position to complain.

Hi Danita – thanks so much. The yellow in the red of the fire hydrant is very vivid and suited to a hydrant, I think.

Really like the yellow soft curve beside the sharp red.

Thank you David. I was a bit worried that my processing added a more definite edge to the yellow line than perhaps it warranted – a softer line is what I realised, belatedly, I should have been trying for.

I really like the light here, and the colour of the hydrant is just the business.
