Dockside Frost

Falling frost black and white

This too was taken as part of the Dockside Green series that I started a few days ago.  It was frosty and my son started scraping the frost off the railing into the water.

This time I can’t make up my mind between the colour and black and white, but am leaning to the colour.

    • Thanks Toad. As I mentioned to Karen, the shutter speed was more luck than planning. But, after the first shot which did not work out due to camera motion, I did manage to steady the camera enough to pull it off.

    • Thanks Karen – it was fun to capture this. A bit serendipitous as the camera settings were just right for getting the trails, and I could hold the camera against the rail to steady it.

  1. To me, the b&w version is completely abstract – it looks as much like sparks as it does anything else. I like it.

But – the color version is a lot more representational of what you actually shot. I like it, too.

Do you mind if I like both?

Also – very clever thing to shoot. Tell your assistant I think he did a good job!

    • Hi Melinda. Interesting observation that the b&w seeming more abstract. I think you are right. You can like both of them if you want to!
My assistant *did* do a good job – this was after he delivered a coffee and pastry to me, and took my partner to work so I could keep on shooting while the light lasted.
I have a couple of nice shots of him stirring up the frost and sending it overboard. I doubt he would want me to post them though.
