Plain Cross
Another view in Ross Bay Cemetery from a couple of weeks ago, looking towards the bright ocean through the trees. I liked the bright light reflecting off the lighter coloured stone and the patterns it makes against the dark grass. And the contrast between the simple stone cross and the complex cast metal monument.

This is beautiful. The dark tree forms in the background really add to the mystery.

Thanks! Every time I see that bright light filtering through the trees at the south edge of the cemetery I want to photograph it, but it is very hard to capture well.

Love the highlights rising up out of this low-key image, Ehpem; very powerful.

Thank you Lynn. low-key it is, though I only assimilated that term into my vocabulary a few weeks ago:)

I like the overall high contrast look you’ve given this. It’s very suited to the subject matter. And a little mysterious.

Thanks Ken – it was one of those processes where little by little I ended up here – seeking an effect that finally came when I went much further than I had intended at first. I kind of like the discovery that comes with these ‘darkroom’ events.

This is very well-done – the interplay between dark and light, and between the simple and the complex, make for an emotional shot.

Thanks Melinda! I had not thought of it that way. I am still trying to figure out what puts emotion into a photograph, so it is interesting to have those ideas to ruminate on.

I’ve always been fascinated with graveyard photography. Your image is wonderfully moody. Well done. Thanks also for visiting and following our blog which gave us a chance to discover yours. Have a great rest of the day.
