Johnson and Cook V
Johnson and Cook Streets series continues, and though I referred to a theme of peeling paint on parking curbs in yesterday’s post, there is no sign of that today.
This building is on the southwest corner of the intersection. The top image is a detail cropped from the bottom image, of the door. I was struck by the painted over incisions in the door – the look almost like they written in an Asian script of some kind, Tibetan or something. The middle picture is another detail from the front of the same building.

Man, I see the face and totally love that door! The font is pretty amazing too, I’ve never seen it on any other house. 🙂

Thanks David – I am pretty sure that is a one-off number set specially made for this building. I have not seen it elsewhere around town.

Thanks Toad! Nice subtle textures in this one compared to the nearby peeling curb paint.

That is a very nice font. I see a faint face in the first one, mysterious and beautiful.

There is something face-like, in the way that petroglyphs can be a face with just two circles.

Oh, the first shot is so full of mystery. It’s my favorite but I really do like the numbers, too. I’d love to have them on my own house!

Hi Ken – glad you like that first shot, it is my favourite by a wide margin.
As to the house numbers – would they work on your place? They are one out for my house, might be kind of hard to get the one I needed made up.

we had a numbered sign made up when we move to Webster (WLIWL) that has our dragon fly on it. I’m sticking with it but you can barely see it from the street.

The pleasure is always in the detail, isn’t it.

Hi Andy. If not always, then a great deal of the time that is true.

I’ve been a calligrapher and an architectural drafter, so I always notice font/lettering styles. The house numbers in your shot are really nice, especially that 2!

Hi Melinda. You have an impressive range of talents! These house numbers are really nice AND they are functional – large enough and contrasty enough to be read from a passing car.

To you, it looks like an impressive range of talents. To my family it just looks like I CAN’T MAKE UP MY MIND ALREADY. I like your assessment much better.
Finding house numbers that are attractive and functional is harder than it needs to be, in my opinion!

I think these numbers must have been custom made for this place. I have not seen others like them anywhere.

I agree. They have a nice, handcrafted look.
