Johnson and Cook X
Part of my ongoing series of the sights at the corner of Johnson and Cook Streets here in Victoria features painted asphalt surfaces. The surrounding pavement of this building is just covered in yellow paint. Almost like a fetish of some kind.
Over the course of the series I have come to like the black and white more than the yellow and colour photos, so I lead with monochrome today, but you can decide for yourself. Now that I see them together, I like the crop in the top one better, less out of focus foreground.

Thanks Andy. For me it really was all about the foreground.
Curious little heap of unpainted curbs near the building. I expect someone will be busy with their can of yellow paint in the near future.

Great shot. I prefer the black and white as well. It makes it more about the lines and textures. In the color version my eye just kind if stops at the yellow lines, but with the black and white I’m drawn much deeper into the photo.

Thanks Denzil, that is an interesting observation which probably explains why I like it more too, but had not put my finger on the reason.

Yes, the B&W is my preference also. But i like the color shots in the series where you have isolated the yellow curb against the dark background. It certainly beats the old days when you had to carry one camera for color and one for black and white.

Thanks Ken. I expect some more of the yellow on dark will creep into this series. My computer is about to go into the shop for some upgrading (timelapse effect = new fast hardrive). To keep the blog rolling, I expect I will put up more from this cache of photos.

I prefer the black and white one, but the out of focus foreground in the colour one doesn’t bother me at all.

Thanks for your comment. Its probably not that big of deal, just the kind of thing that comes up during editing and which commands attention of the person at the controls, and few others.
