Johnson and Cook XI

Tree Arrow1

More from the series at the corner of Johnson and Cook Streets here in Victoria, and another instalment in the sub-them of painted asphalt.

I prefer the black and white for this one because it accentuates the slightly uncanny effect of the branches merging with the cracks in the arrow. But, the colour is nice too.

    • Thanks Lynn! There is something about them isn’t there. The bold part is probably a case of form following function – many of them have to be seen and understood at a glance, sometimes at speed, often amongst distractions. So, they have to be in-your-face simple and clear. I like them especially when they are wearing down like this one.

  1. I am breaking the 1-1 tie, with my completely predictable vote for the b&w. I have a better sense of the texture in that one, and those scattered raindrops are more pronounced. And, while I hate disagrees (twice) with Ken, I think the red leaf is a little distracting.

    • You are very dependable Melinda, when it comes to a choice between colour and black and white. Thanks for the detailed reasons to go with your vote as well – the raindrops were an important feature when I was taking puddle pictures that day (yes, there are others).

    • I still find it a bit hard to believe that in 6 weeks you walked those 800km through snow and rain and sun and over mud and rocks and pavement. Yellow arrows pointing the way end to end.
