Johnson and Cook XI

More from the series at the corner of Johnson and Cook Streets here in Victoria, and another instalment in the sub-them of painted asphalt.
I prefer the black and white for this one because it accentuates the slightly uncanny effect of the branches merging with the cracks in the arrow. But, the colour is nice too.

The black and white is great. I like this very much.

Thank you Karen! I need to tally up the votes soon. It’s neck and neck

I was about to say:”I vote for he B&W” … but … in fact I think I prefer the colored one 🙂
I like the little touch of red in the yellow arrow.

Thanks Mathias. You surprise me, I would have thought you would go for black and white. It’s been a long time since I posted a pair of treatments where there was a split right down the middle in the preferences.

Black & white would have been my choice without this little red “imperfection” !

Ha! Well I confess I barely noticed it when taking the picture, though was pleased to find it in post…

I like the colour one the most this time.
I like both though, love the combination of the painted on, the reflection in.

Thank you Ashley. I like it that my readers are making a dead heat of this choice. I am glad I put both of them up this time.

Oh, I have a thing for signs painted on the streets; just something about it, bold and immediate. Love these photos!

Thanks Lynn! There is something about them isn’t there. The bold part is probably a case of form following function – many of them have to be seen and understood at a glance, sometimes at speed, often amongst distractions. So, they have to be in-your-face simple and clear. I like them especially when they are wearing down like this one.

I am breaking the 1-1 tie, with my completely predictable vote for the b&w. I have a better sense of the texture in that one, and those scattered raindrops are more pronounced. And, while I hate disagrees (twice) with Ken, I think the red leaf is a little distracting.

You are very dependable Melinda, when it comes to a choice between colour and black and white. Thanks for the detailed reasons to go with your vote as well – the raindrops were an important feature when I was taking puddle pictures that day (yes, there are others).

Hi Marcel and thanks. I am not completely surprised you would land on that choice!

The yellow arrow reminds me of the Camino in Spain pointing to Santiago.

I still find it a bit hard to believe that in 6 weeks you walked those 800km through snow and rain and sun and over mud and rocks and pavement. Yellow arrows pointing the way end to end.

I’m picking the color version, based on the simplicity and because I like blue and yellow together. A little splash of red doesn’t hurt, either.

Hi Ken. It’s a bit odd to have a red leaf in spring, but I think there must be some ornamental plum or cherry nearby.
