Cat Iris

The lovely morning light that yesterday was illuminating the Iris flowers, is today brought to my cat, and her irises. After taking the flower pictures I found her patiently waiting on the back step for a portrait to be made.
Naturally, I complied. She is the one in charge around here, and must be humoured at all opportunities. Besides which, she is wonderfully photogenic, so it is not a chore at all.
She is not sure about this extreme crop from the photo above of her iris as it is a bit sinister.

I just love that first shot, the narrow DOF works perfectly. Such a natural cat shot.

Thank you Andy. She was surveying up and down the path – watching for the neighbours cat I am pretty sure. So she kept on turning her head back and forth. Slightly annoying if I had just framed the shot but not pressed the shutter yet. But she was ignoring me completely, and I did get this shot, so no complaints.

Or she may have just been pretending to be indifferent to the camera so I would not think she was pleased or, heavens forbid, grateful to have her picture taken.

That macro… totally exciting!

Thanks! I have this idea to try my hand at some highly magnified eye pictures. I see them around sometimes and they are always interesting.

I like these a lot; I also love cats, so a double pleasure.

Thank you David. Cats give people a lot of pleasure. It seems that cats and humans have been together for a very long time – not as long as dogs perhaps, but still many thousands of years. It obviously works well for both species!

I love the photo but now Emo is getting jealous. Although he is probably the most photographed cat in history, he has been in semi-retirement for about the past year, just because he’s lazy. Now I will have to put more attention on him. BTW, he approves of this photo, too.

Thanks to both you and Emo. He is a sterling cat of the highest quality so his approval is much appreciated. I hope it is not a hardship to indulge him with a few photos.

Very nice shots of your beautiful cat. Do you think she will be able to handle her new, blog-based fame?

She can handle anything, except dogs. She hates dogs. But, she has intermittent fame on this blog, and is usually very relaxed about it. Like here: http://wp.me/p1R4lY-G7

This is the one I remember – http://bit.ly/12vkg1a – because when I showed it to my dad, he looked at the B&W version and said, “The cat looks like a sofa cushion.”
Anyway, glad she’s not letting fame get in the way of being a good kitty.

She certainly is not letting it get in the way of a good nap – after she booted me from bed too darn early this morning, she did not emerge until mid-afternoon, according to those humans home at the time. And since then she has had several more naps!

My cat naps approximately 27 hours/day. And is still very, very tired. Oh, and hungry.

Beautifully done, and such a sweet kitty.

Lisa, you hit that one right on and clearly know how to make cat friends. She IS a sweet kitty (even though she just booted me from bed at 6am so she could get under the covers and have her morning nap, in peace, thank you very much).

Hi James – thanks so much. I am very pleased with that macro lens, and I was not even in tight. While willing to have a portrait taken, she was not about to tolerate lenses right in the face – star’s attitudes concerning paparazzi attitudes are cross-species, and my cat is not one that actually desires to be seen in supermarket checkout displays.
