Iris Buds

More iris shots from the garden. These are all flower buds. They are nice in colour, but also in black and white. My mood suggests black and white so here you go.

  3. I have not thought of this flower in terms of b&w, but it’s a natural for bringing out the nice tones you have come up with in these photographs. Impressive and beautiful everyone of them.

    • Hi Joseph. I am glad you find that they worked out well. The only reason I even tried this treatment was because of my black and white posts of the foliage.

  4. Ehpem! These are great. You perfectly captured the textures of leaves and buds, and the lighting is exactly what the shots needed. I was going to tell you which one was my favorite, but when I scrolled up to look again, I couldn’t decide… (Also, Ken was right to say “elegant.”)

    • Thanks Melinda! Sometimes black and white just works – I too think the light makes these shots. I took them right after yesterday’s grass pictures. Early morning light in my garden can be perfect. Not today though – grey and overcast. And cold.

      • I thought you didn’t need to look. Just find any old deserted town, or intersection in the country, get out the camera, and they rolled up for a picture. Or am I missing something? Kind of like driftwood on our beaches, get the camera out and the logs sidle closer.

      • According to state law, anyone with Canadian and/or British citizenship is required to wear a hat and boots for the duration of their visit. To accommodate travelers who arrive hat- and boot-less, hat- and boot-boxes are located at all arrival points. You find what fits, get TEXAS stamped on your passport, and before you know it: tumbleweeds. (Oh, and you can keep the hat and boots if you want. It’s Texas’s gift!)

    • HI Ken – elegant is a very nice word to have show up in my comments! That second one was the shot I was most pleased to find through the view finder, I took quite a number trying to get the focus and so on. Not sure I nailed it, but I got the light and that was a big part of it.
