Misty Ridges

More from the Olympic Mountains; this ridge is the same one that I opened my series with here, photographed from a different vantage.
This time a single image is processed in Lightroom and Topaz B&W Effects (thanks Andy [LensScaper] for your comment which hastened my tests with the software that I got as part of a larger package a few weeks ago but had not yet tested). With testing only a few features of the software on this one image I can see that I am going to get some very good use out of it.

These are gorgeous, ehpem! I’m way behind in my blog reading so missed the earlier ones. I can see I will have to go back and have a look. Wonderful stuff!

Thanks Laurie. It is so nice to get into these mountains every now and then and see some detail instead of having them just as a distant backdrop.

So glad to see you are exploring those great plug-ins, my friend! I love BOTH renditions you’ve shared here, that second one really blows me away with the strong sense of layering! Fabulous work.

Thanks a lot Toad. I like that second one too – I think the dark foreground layer works better than having details of the trees to distract. I owe thanks to you for steering me towards the plugins as well, through your reviews and so on. I am having fun with them. Though I must say, every time I add a bit of software to my workflow, I spend more time per shot at the computer than out with the camera. A trade off I suppose. And the ratio will change as I become more fluent with the plug ins.

It is, I am just learning about how well it all works. Seems to have been a huge change in just the past 3 or 4 years.

I love the monochromatic tone in the first shot. And thanks for the mention – glad you are enjoying that plug-in. There is so much to play with but when you hit the sweet spot then an image really sings – and both of these are first class.

Thanks Andy! I have barely scratched the surface with these plug-ins, but your are totally right about hitting that sweet spot, which happens quite often too.

I could play all day with the Topaz plug-ins. The possibilities are endless. This photo is an excellent choice for different interpretations.

Thanks Ken. I find that these software tools give me ideas for interpretation that might not otherwise have occurred.
