Standard Shadow

IMG_3788

This wall in Port Angeles was a fantastic colour in the setting sun, but I was more interested in curved shadow among all those hard corners, and bird strikes. Also, I like the fuzzy bit of shadow at the top, where all those anti-bird spikes are located. I wonder if the bird strikes are some form of practice where they try to hit that uncomfortable bit of shadow, or something.

Anyway, I stripped out the colour to emphasize what interested me. Sorry about that.

Yesterday‘s elephant is gilded, and I did not show you its golden self either. I must be in a monochrome mood. Or something.

Perhaps I will find it in me to post more colour, even from these same shots, later in the week, or month.

  1. I find the composition of the second shot the more interesting and better balanced of the two. The birds have certainly had some dive bombing practice by the look of the wall – maybe in defiance of not being able to perch on the top of the lighting pole!

    • Thanks for your comment about composition Andy, much appreciated.
I thought it was defiance, and the shadow produces a moving target too, albeit a very slow one.

  2. The second photo works better for me, probably because I like the curve in the pole and the shadow. If the bird strikes are a form of practice , then it’s practice for hitting my car. I swear it has a bulls eye on it that I can’t see.

    • Thanks Ken. Looks like that photo is the favourite among viewers.
My car has one of those targets on it too. Especially to Great Blue Herons which are carpet bombing specialists.

    • Thanks Melinda. They do break it up a bit. And there are some odd little details in the window glass that also help to make it less regular.
I don’t hear you complaining about the missing gorgeous orange colour, so that must be a good sign.
