Light Wall

IMG_1684-Edit-Edit edited

In keeping with my recent emphasis on unusual light, this scene comes from my bedroom wall. This light reflects off the neighbour’s house through a small window in my closet and then shines through the louvred closet doors. It casts striped light on the yellow wall, and in this case, bends it around a large tube that is leaning against a bookshelf.

Light like this lasts for only a few minutes during the days of the year when it can shine at this angle. I like this kind of light and shadow, as seen in this earlier picture from blinds.

Every house should be designed to have these little interludes of beautiful light in unexpected corners of the house – they make it so much more liveable. This one was not by design however, I installed the window in the closet with the idea of more light in it, but not with any idea of light projecting out of the closet like this.

This caught my attention just before heading out for a lunch and photo outing with the Toad of Toad Hollow Photography a few weeks ago, so it sits in a folder with all those nice memories from that afternoon in the sun. Memories that I have yet to process into images that I can post. I guess this is a start.

    • Thank you David. A lot of this image came in the processing. I probably could have got a better exposure to begin with, and it being reflected light is not as strong as this makes out. But it is more like what I was seeing.

  2. The more I look at this, the more I like it, especially the way the light plays against the textures on the wall. This is a good reminder to all of us to be watchful of these sorts of opportunities that are lovely, and fleeting.

  3. I think many photographers don’t realize that light itself can be the main subject in a photo, as you have here. It’s a great statement and it shows that you are very aware of the photographic opportunities available.
