Ross Bay Cemetery VI

This shot from Ross Bay Cemetery was taken yesterday.

I can’t find anything out about this simplest and smallest of headstones. I have to wonder if there are aesthetic or economic choices involved. Or maybe it marks the grave of a baby, stillborn and unnamed.

I really like that it is so spare. Although genealogists probably despair at so little information.

You can find out more about Ross Bay Cemetery in these earlier posts.

    • Hi Melinda, not only did I not really examine the shadow of the headstone when taking this photo, but until you mentioned it I did not notice the shadow of the cones. I like that arrow now that I see it – thanks!

  1. The diagonal lines of the shadow of the stone add a lot of interest and gives it some dimension. And the ground cover is an odd color and texture and the overall tone brings a little mystery, too. This is very nice.

    • Thanks Ken. The shadow was not really what I was seeing when I took the photo, but I am pleased with how it dominates in the photo.
The ground cover is an interesting mix of stuff from the overhead tree(s) – I lost some of its colour and texture by exposing for the very bright marble, and having too shallow a depth of field. I tried to fix that a bit, but did not want to mess with the image too much.
