Toba Trees III

A week or so ago I posted a colour shot of the Toba River and adjacent trees. I decided in that instance that black and white version worked better.
This time, I prefer the colour version. The colour of the river is just so good.

Colour for me…rather interesting.

Thanks David, it is an unusual colour I think.

Thanks Ashley – that makes it 5 our ot 6 for the colour, including myself. Not quite unanimous…

After going back and forth again and again between both versions, I’ve made up my mind which one I like better!

Well Ken. I am very glad to hear that you have made a choice. If you feel like sharing it, I am sure some of my readers would be interested!

Sorry. I sometimes get distracted. I prefer the B&W version. I think that the added texture in the top half is very appealing to the overall look.

That’s OK Ken, I figured either it was a joke I was missing, or you just got distracted. So I am thinking you might agree with Melinda about getting that texture into the colour version as an improvement.

I prefer the colour version – not often I say that, but the colours are, to my eye, important to the success of the image.

Thank you Andy. Glad we are in agreement on this one. Though ‘success’ might be a bit strong for this image.

Ehpem! You are acting as your OWN research department, to answer your own question? That just doesn’t seem right, somehow.
I agree with Karen – that blue water is quite nice. But I also like the ripples in the b&w version. Now, if you could combine those two things….

I like the ripples too. They come at a price though, such as the hazy shadows around the darker shadows of the trees. How to combine them though – I suppose it could be done easily in photoshop.

I think a more accurate statement would be “it could be done in photoshop.

Retro river. I think that green-blue is beautiful, it does make me think of Polaroids for some reason.

Hi Karen – Polaraids eh? That is not something I would have thought of. Maybe a colour that goes by when the image is developing? Or the colour of some of the camera bodies from the earlier 60s? I am not sure they came in anything other brown and black, but might have.

I did a bit of a search, which I suppose I should have done before replying. There are some blue bodied polaroid cameras out there, though they seem more recent. And some of them might be a similar colour to this. Perhaps that is the connection? Or is it in the image? I see a blue cast on quite a few polaroid shots that seems to originate with Polaroid Blue film. Anyway, interesting comment that got me looking around, so thanks a lot Karen!
