Canoeist

IMG_9298-2

Early last week I went to Port Renfrew on the west coast of Vancouver Island with my son, just to hang out for a couple of days. Here he is passing beneath the bridge I was walking over.

    • Hi Ken. This bridge is over the mouth of the estuary and is mostly salt water at this point. The colour probably comes from the sand reflecting the sunny blue sky. I knew this shot was going to work out well and called my son over to pass beneath me – one of those views that once imagined are dead certain to work (barring technical glitches).

Wonderful weather the past week, but cold. For the first time in as along as I can remember (decades) I was able to walk over a creek (I am not a habitual walker-on-water type) which was a good thing as I had left my rubber boots in the car. Perfect weather for getting back into a bit of field work of the looking around variety in preparation for some research I will be doing later this year, especially since I was in an area north of here that is notoriously wet at this time of year.

The Hittys, who agree that I may live among them (so long as I behave myself), posted a shot today of an iced-up fountain in Victoria, by way of illustration of what is for us unusual weather (http://wp.me/p1VTqd-1SO).

    • Hi Victor – thanks for the comments! I had not thought about the tilt-shift comparison but now that you mention it I think that is probably what appeals to me about the shot.

    • Thank you Adrian, and welcome to my blog. It is great to have you visit and bring your blog to my attention – some very nice photos there.
What I especially like about about this view is the sympathetic colours of the treated bridge timbers and the water. I did very little to this shot other than to crop out some noisesome bits of bridge abutment on both sides of the canoe.
