Thetis Lake VII

This is another shot taken of Thetis Lake on a beautiful morning in mid-January.

I think I like the original framing above better than the crop below. It seems to have a greater sense of depth.

Others in the series from this walk can be found here.

  1. I once read somewhere that someone had done a psycho-cultural analysis of the artwork of First Nations people in the Northwest and determined that the uncanny symmetry it displays (example: turn a totem on its side) is actually the same symmetry as that displayed in your photos, here.

    Try it; it’s really similar.

I love this subject matter. Please continue.

    • Hi Sam – thanks for the comment. There are some fascinating reflections – I have seen photographers turn them on edge and the bilateral symmetry can be very evocative of some of the poles and other bilaterally symmetrical art from the Northwest Coast.

    • And thank you Katherine for all the likes. My Australian views are way up, thanks to you and my mother (she is visiting her sister near Bullengarook).
I am very far behind on viewing other people’s blogs, and finally got back to what I consider your “other” blog.

      • Not all that far from where my Dad grew up. So you have an Aussie aunty? What fun! Have you ever been to Oz, Mr E? I think Bullengarook is probably a very quiet area, I know Bacchus Marsh which is close by from my childhood. Nothing much there from memory but the countryside in Victoria, especially at this time of year is always beautiful.

      • Hi Katherine – my mum’s sister married an Australian and has lived there for about 45 years or so. I haven’t been to visit, but wish that had been possible. From everything I have seen of their area, it is beautiful – they have a large garden that consumes a lot of their time.

      • Hi Katherine, I see I gave a reply here for a post elsewhere. So I moved that one. Sorry for the confusion. It would be lovely to visit Australia. My aunt is elderly and unable to travel now so I really should try to get there, but cost is a big hurdle. If I do get there, I will for sure be looking you up as well!

      • Look me up and bring your family! We have beds. Yes the cost is horrendous so you need to stay a good month to make the most of it. I hope you do get to see her at some point.
