Self in the Pink
Whatever prompted a Coombs merchant/artist to paint this tunnel in such pink I doubt I will ever know.
It does allow for a self-portrait in the pink when the light is right.
Which really is not sufficient justification for its existence.
There are so many things that could be said, most of them best left for the pictures to say.

Not a fan of pink? Generally, neither am I but I admit it has a certain shock value. The artist probably has taken that into account and it got your attention. Art cries out to be seen (or heard). Plus, it got people talking. Another function of art! I have a picture of a pink bunny that my great niece drew and I love it. Mostly because she drew it, but still.

I don’t mind pink in many settings, and in reasonable quantity. This garish pink, this much of it, lit with low afternoon light is really quite something, something that is too much.
The HDR treatment did not add much to the vibrancy and saturation – a bit, but its not the reason it looks this way. Still, how could I not process this with HDR?
Above the tunnel is a faux concrete castle in many colours, about 20 feet high, right next to the road. A kind of come-on to passing tourists. These kinds of monuments to bad taste and tourism are not all that common around here – the occasional worlds biggest something or other (like hockey stick) – so they do deserve a bit of study, hence a few posts here from there to you all, with a grin.

This would be the place for Elvis Costello (of nearby Northwest Bay) to sing “Good Squad.” The lyrics go:
“I could join a chain of males or be a missing link

What a garish place!

It is garish indeed.
For all we know, Elvis has stood right here and sung those lyrics to Diana Krall, of nearby Northwest Bay.
