Gonzales Pinholes

f-327, 30 seconds, pulled through, but did not peel for 25 minutes, black smudge on horizon is passing container ship

Today is Worldwide Pinhole Day so I took a bit of time this morning with my pinhole camera to take a few shots at Gonzales Beach near my home. Earlier today I posted as part of the 52 rolls project some other shots from this same pack of film taken a few days ago at Point No Point which is 70km by road west of my house in Victoria.

Things went much more smoothly than they have in the past with this camera. However, it was chilly (8.5°C) and this, probably combined with my technique, meant that the chemistry did not quite distribute to the far edge (left side) of the image and thus each shot has a blemish along that edge.

Polaroid for Worldwide Pinhole Day

My week 16 post at 52Rolls.net has pinhole photographs from earlier in the week taken at Point No Point out the Vancouver Island coast past Sooke. Today is Worldwide Pinhole Day and I will be taking a few more shots today to mark the ‘event’. I hope to have time to scan and post them during the day, but if not, will do so tomorrow.

Today being Worldwide Pinhole Day I am posting some Polaroid pinholes as my week 16 contribution. These are totally out of sequence for what I actually shot on film; but one must honour these special photography days where possible, right? I wanted to make sure I could could get useable exposures with the Fujifilm FP-100C so mid-week made these pinholes with the Polaroid microscope attachment I adapted a month or two ago. I had been having a lot of trouble with exposures using the FP-3000B and so wanted to see what the colour film was like, and how extreme the colour shifts are.

These shots were taken at Point No Point on the south west shore of Vancouver Island just as the morning sun was shining onto the ocean through gaps in the trees (middle picture). There were endless large waves breaking on the rocky shore. The pinhole exposure times won’t capture the waves, but…

Drain and Cloud

Another shot from my long running storm drain series.

There will be more coming because Melinda Green Harvey was visiting for a few days.

We passed the storm drain at least twice every day.

And stopped to take pictures every time.

If you don’t know Melinda’s photography, then check it out here, there are a lot of wonderful photographs.

Disparate Siblings

Five headstones that are on one family plot. I wonder if they got on in life – their headstones suggest some differences..

I spent a lot of time in cemeteries yesterday, with Melinda Green Harvey. Between us we have taken an awful lot of photos.

Yesterday we lucked out with the light.

The morning had totally flat light with rain but the afternoon brightened up a lot, just when we needed it.

Waiting

IMG_9473 Full Sized

I saw these benches while waiting for the Seattle-Victoria Clipper service to disgorge an important visitor. That visitor is Melinda of photo-blogging fame.

We have been taking pictures together for the past two days. We have driven all over southern Vancouver Island, getting wind-blasted on beaches and poking around in forests.

We are having a lot of fun, and there are still a couple of days to go. I am shooting mostly digital while she is here, at least while we were on a road trip. Around town I will shoot some film too.
